STATEMENT OF BigEye
Regarding legislation recently found to be unconstitutional

The issue is even more serious than the egregious violation of every citizen's right to exercise free expression and to pursue whatever personal taste he has, however distasteful it may be to his neighbor. So long as none of us is obliged to adopt the standards or the prejudices of our neighbor we enjoy what have been called "the blessings of Liberty".

We must not get bogged down into accepting the "necessity" of defining politically correct sexuality, or politically correct speech, or politically correct behavior, or politically correct thought, or politically correct expression, or politically correct writing, or politically correct anything.

We must focus upon the destruction of the power base from which demagogues, religious bigots, self-styled guardians of our individual psyches, "moral" reformers, and civil servants (politicians) flaunt their arrogance and abuse us. Any one of them is free to openly lay claim to treading a morally higher ground than that upon which I walk daily. No "leaders" must be permitted to deprive either you or me of our natural freedom, nor to violate our personal code of values. My sexuality, my speech, my behavior, my thought, my expression, my writing, and my life must remain mine to pursue, in Liberty, for the pursuit of my own happiness. Anything less is intolerable.

In a letter to James Madison in 1787 Mr. Thomas Jefferson wrote, "I hold it, that a little rebellion, now and then, is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical." Later in the same year he wrote to another, "What country before ever existed without a rebellion?...The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural nature." To my own kinsman, James Ogilvie, he wrote nearly four decades later, "Politics, like religion, hold up the torches of martyrdom to the reformers of error".

I am a retired, law abiding, well educated, responsible man who loves his family. I consider it a stroke of marvelous good fortune to have been born and to have lived in The United States of America. In my college years I read George Orwell's "1984". At the time, I understood that Mr. Orwell's hideous scenario referred to a land beyond the seas. Little did I dream, at the time, that matters would come to this in my own country within my lifetime.

I compliment those younger and stronger than myself for defying and protesting the recent indecent and incredible telecommunications legislation, expensive and unconstitutional posturings from a bloated, intrusive, and abusive government.
